European School Music Prize (ESP): Award winners of 2017 announced

Schools from Hamburg, Wernigerode and Grosshöchstetten (Switzerland) have won this year's edition of the European School Music Prize, and can now rejoice over the highly endowed prize. This was announced by the organizer SOMM – Society Of Music Merchants e. V. on Wednesday in Berlin. Other three schools were praised with special prizes. The official prize-giving ceremony of the ESP takes place on April 7, 2017 within the frameworks of the Musikmesse in Frankfurt/Main.

The aim of the European School Music Prize is to permanently document and show appreciation for methodical and creative work with musical instruments and to make it available to the public, so as to promote the active music making in schools. "I am very glad that we received an especially high number of good and very creative applications this year", summarizes the ESP Jury Chairman Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Pfeiffer, Music Professor at the Philosophy Faculty of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. "For this reason, the selection of the prize winners was not easy this time around; they were convincing through outstanding examples from their music classes, using methods that could serve as inspiration to other colleagues. This way, the music making in the classroom will receive a further impulse", said Prof. Dr. Pfeiffer.
